Scott Specialty Gases publishes new catalog of electronic
specialty gases and equipment for semiconductor manufacturing

Scott Specialty Gases has published a new catalog of technology-driven products and services that help reduce the cost of using electronic specialty gases associated with semiconductor manufacturing. The FREE 80-page volume illustrates a diverse line of high-purity specialty gases, gas mixtures and gas handling equipment required for etching, ion implantation and other processes.

Susan Gersten, Director of Operations for Scott Specialty Gases Electronic Materials Group, explains, "Scott’s Semiconductor Group has pioneered development of exclusive gas purification technologies, including distillation purification processes for difficult materials such as hydrogen bromide." State-of-the-art instrumentation and proven analytical methods provide superior characterization of key contaminants for materials such as argon, ammonia, boron trichloride, chlorine, helium, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, nitrous oxide and oxygen. Gersten adds, "Scott not only helps manufacturers of electronics keep pace with rapidly evolving technology, but also helps fuel technology advancement by developing new technology that raises industry standards for gas purity."

Consistency of gas quality from one cylinder to another remains a big concern in today’s semiconductor industry. Scott achieves exceptional product consistency and repeatability four ways: 1) extensive research and development efforts that lead to well-engineered manufacturing and process procedures; 2) continuous, thorough testing of raw materials and finished products; 3) tightly-controlled manufacturing and process procedures, tracked by SQC data; and 4) companywide quality assurance programs that validate uniformity of product quality across all Scott manufacturing facilities. Scott maintains technical, sales and customer service team members throughout strategically located manufacturing facilities in North America and Europe as well as through Asian distributors.

Scott maintains a reputation as a supplier of high quality products—not only in the semiconductor industry, but also in other industries such as environmental, chemical, refining, medical, laboratory and active pharmaceutical ingredients where accurate gases for instrument calibration and process control are essential. Scott customers have toll-free, immediate access to its Technical Services Group (800-21-SCOTT) for help with technical issues as well as for same-day quotes on custom products. Our websites provide eTools that empower customers to substantially reduce the cost of using electronic specialty gases while managing their inventory of cylinders and products more efficiently.

HIGH PURITY Hydrogen Bromide - HBr

Scott Specialty Gases has recently added a new high-purity Hydrogen Bromide (HBr). This is the material of choice for:
  • Deep trench etching of Silicon: HBr = high profile control
  • Polysilicon etch: HBr = high selectivity to SiO2 layer

Ultra high-purity Hydrogen Bromide (HBr) has less than 1 ppm H2O which minimizes corrosion, where moisture acts as a catalyst, resulting in reduced potential for metallic contamination. It also has less than 1 ppm CO2, less than 1 ppm CO, and less than 0.5 ppm CH4 for reduced potential for carbon contamination.

This new high-purity Hydrogen Bromide (HBr) has optimal packaging. Carbon steel cylinders are mechanically polished to enhance adhesion of a subsequent layer of nickel. The electroless nickel-plating provides homogenous, conformal coverage of the internal surface, as well as the highest resistance to corrosion. The final cylinder conditioning ensures the absence of moisture and minimal particle population, combined with Clean Room cylinder processing.

Scott Specialty Gases provides high-purity electronic cylinder gases and equipment to the semiconductor manufacturing and electronics industries. We pride ourselves in providing the best service in the industry and the widest offerings in products, supported by leading edge technology and world-wide delivery.

OC-1: Automatic Gas Cabinet From SCOTT

The new OmniControl 1 (OC-1) is a fully programmable automated gas delivery system now available from Scott Specialty Gases Electronic Materials Group. This gas cabinet was designed and developed to be the easiest system to learn/operate now available on the market. Therefore, all interfaces and inputs have been kept extremely user-friendly and are fully customizable. Standard features include two-point dilution auto purge, auto switchover capability for liquids or gases and a seven-valve panel.

The gas cabinet is available with various configurations of process gas panels, including custom configurations, as well as two or three-cylinder capacity. Data entry and control functions are performed via a PLC accessed through a touch-operated screen. Automatic connection and interface is ensured with other in-fab systems, like fire, earthquake, toxic monitors, etc.

Options available range from custom-written softeware for remote/modem monitoring and control (for single or multiple cabinets) to any required hardware modification.
